First day of school! First day of school!! First day of school!!! While we are still a couple years away from the start of Kindergarten, my oldest has officially begun her LAST year of elementary school! Yep, that's right, I have a fifth grader! And I can't believe it. I don't think it really sunk in until open house this past Monday night either. She is all grown up - where have the years gone?
It's also strange to think that we will have at least one year without anyone in elementary school with the age gap being so great between child #1 and #2. Our "middle" daughter is at a disadvantage with her birthday falling on the 5th of August. The new rule in Nebraska is that the child must be 5 years old by August 1st to start Kindergarten (previously, the cut off was October 15th I believe). Of course, time will tell the real truth, but we hope to get her started early to help with boredom issues, etc. that we assume will happen. Our daycare claims that she is advanced, and even A tells us she's intelligent. She's been counting in Spanish and writing her name (yes, it's only 3 letters long) since June, can identify many letters and numbers when prompted and will correct her older sister's grammar and pro-nun-ci-a-tion of words to name a few. She has amazed us since day #1 - literally!
E, on the other hand, has already shown us that she will be quieter, maybe more reserved and easy going. We have video of A at age 3 months "talking" up a storm; E has yet to be downright vocal. E is 6 months and has the sweetest personality and is so content and patient. She is such a good baby!! As exhausting as it is to cart her around, we are completely in love with her and all her rolls! Side note: it is now week #2 of daycare and she is doing really well adjusting to the new schedule. She had a rough first week getting used to interrupted naps, etc., but her napping times have looked a lot more consistent this week! I'm soooo thankful for this.

The summer just flew by...good news on the new schedule. I. am always anxious when they begin daycare and have to reset their clocks!
ReplyDeleteWow! 5th grade!! That is crazy to think about. It is exciting but also "happy sad" (the term we use when my tears start about new milestones in my kids' lives) to watch them grow... time goes by SO quickly, which allows us the reminder to sit back and enjoy. Let the dishes sit and the cleaning be on the back burner. Enjoy as much as we can because VERY soon they will be grown up and we will want these times back.
