Ultrasound News!

And, we're having what appears to be a........healthy baby!! Yes, we got to see our "beautiful" and "perfect" baby today via ultrasound. Chris was able to sneak out of school a few minutes early after getting someone to cover the last 30 minutes of school.

At 20 weeks/6 days by dating, baby measures right on 21 weeks and 1 pound. My first impression was that 1 pound was big at this point which kind of worried me, but the tech said 1 pound at 21 weeks is normal. (Remember people - I had a 10 lb 5 oz baby two years ago!) Baby was very active during the ultrasound which made it really fun. Baby looked as if he/she was riding a bike it was moving so much. We saw the head and neck stretch way back just as if Baby was waking up or trying to get more comfortable. Really cool! The tech showed us the position and noticed the legs and feet are over on my right side which is exactly where I feel tons of kicks all the time. Knew it! She called the routine procedure "normal," and I will see my doctor again in a couple weeks for another 4-week check up.

Chris and I decided not to find out the baby's gender. He was very against it even though I was a bit curious... He brought up a good point that the birth moment is the best time to be surprised, and I guess it's true that we are already pretty prepared for this one, girl or boy. I think waiting gives us another reason to look forward to the baby's birth.

Stats:
  • Age - 20 weeks/6 days by dating; 21 weeks by ultrasound
  • Weight - "exactly" 1 pound
  • Heart rate - 144
  • Bladder and kidneys functioning; adequate amount of fluid present; brain, heart, lungs and abdomen look "normal"
  • Ornery like it's daddy...

Here are a few pictures I had to share:

  2. #2 was 10'5" born vaginally. In fact, baby came pretty fast and "epidural" wasn't even brought up, hence, she was born completely natural. Yes, OUCH...
